Namanga Hills

Namanga Hills/ Ol Donyo Orok is located a few kilometers from Namanga town, southern Kenya. It’s a home to wildlife animals and exotic plants. It’s also the main water source for Namanga town.

The hike started at 8:00AM from Namanga lodge Hotel. Instead of using the usual route we opted to hike along the river bank as it is more scenic and provided shade from the scotching sun. A summary of the hike and associated costs are the end of this blog.

This was the starting point for the hike along the river bank. It’s approximately 1.5-2Kms from the main starting point.
It’s a rocky affair. I enjoyed going up and down these rocks. If you plan on trying this, please be careful.
The view from the top is breathtaking. From this point you can see Namanga town & its surroundings, the immigration station & Mt Longido (in Tanzania)
These 2 spots stole my heart. My favorite places.
Descending was the most challenging activity. I didn’t have good gripped shoes so i was forced to use every available part of my body.

  • Transport from Nairobi to Namanga & back- Ksh 1000 (ksh 500 one way)
  • Transport from Namanga town to Namanga hills & back- ksh 100 (using a motorbike, ksh 50 one way)
  • Namanga hills conservation fees Ksh. 200
  • Guide fee ksh 1000 (negotiable)
  • Food ksh 200

What to carry:

  • Your Identification cards
  • Carry 2-3L of water to stay hydrated
  • Comfortable shoes with a good grip (anti-slippery)

  • Unbreakable hiking spirit
  • The spirit of adventure
